Hico, W.Va. (WVDN)) – K.J. Beyer, owner of The Garden Sheddy, 25385 Midland Trail, Suite 4, Hico, W.Va., co-located with Freefolk Brewery & Ample Pizza, invites the community to attend the Saturday, May 2, grand opening/ribbon cutting of her plant and garden shop. The event will take place at 12:00 p.m. She has been working with the West Virginia Hive – entrepreneurial program of the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority – to position her business for success.

To mark the occasion, the first 50 customers on May 2 will receive a free gift. Guest can also enjoy light snacks and iced herbal tea while exploring the shop’s offerings. A limited-edition beer release will also be available to commemorate the event.

The Garden Sheddy officially opened on August 10, 2025, and has continued to grow with the support of WV Hive business advising services.  Beyer brings years of experience as a nursery manager and is a Certified Plant Professional.

“I’ve always loved plants, they’re calming, meaningful, and bring people together,” said Beyer. “I wanted to create a space where people could slow down, shop local, and leave with something beautiful.”

Beyer enjoys connecting with fellow plant lovers and often jokes about how quickly a single plant can turn into a full collection. “People come in thinking they’ll buy just one more plant,” she said.  “But that’s how it starts and then it snowballs.

“Working with K.J. has been such a great experience,” said Devon Fitzgerald, Business Advisor with WV Hive. “She has a clear passion for what she does, and The Garden Sheddy is a great example of how local businesses can create meaningful spaces that bring people together while strengthening our communities.”
