CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack on Tuesday presented nearly $2,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Clarksburg Police Department in connection with the West Virginia Treasury’s February online firearms auction.

“The firearms that were sold during our last online auction include weapons that are older and no longer used by a department, or that have been seized as evidence and sitting in storage rooms for an extended amount of time. These funds will greatly benefit the Clarksburg Police Department and allow them to strengthen, as well as keep their communities safe,” Treasurer Pack said. “My Office is excited to continue to hold these online auctions to help modernize our Unclaimed Property Program.”

Treasurer Pack presented $1,941.00 to Clarksburg Police Chief Mark Kiddy during a check presentation Monday afternoon. The Clarksburg Police Department sold 15 firearms during the February online firearms auction.

“We really appreciate Mr. Pack dropping off the check for the sale of confiscated guns and weapons for the Clarksburg Police Department,” Chief Kiddy said. “The money returned to the police department will be used to buy additional equipment for the members of the department. This is a big help to our budget and help our policemen stay safe,”

Treasurer Pack recently announced the winning bid amount from the February online firearms auction was $82,299.10 placed from a federal firearm licensed dealer in Georgia. There were 527 firearms sold from 19 law enforcement agencies across West Virginia that were up for bid. More than 18 bids were submitted from licensed dealers spanning across ten states.

Last year, the Treasurer’s Office sold 2,347 firearms for a total of $452,073 from one in-person live auction and five online auctions. Winning bids came from federal licensed firearms dealers in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Georgia. Bids can be made only by Federal Firearms License Dealers.
