LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) — Sarah Morris, a Lewisburg resident, has officially filed to run for the West Virginia House of Delegates in District 47.

Morris, who grew up in Ronceverte and later left the state for work opportunities, says her decision to run comes from lived experience and a growing belief that state government should better reflect the realities families face every day.

“Decisions made in Charleston don’t stay in Charleston,” Morris said. “They land on our kitchen tables, where families are struggling to pay their bills. They impact whether families can afford childcare, whether small businesses can stay open, and whether people can build a future where they already live.”

After returning home to care for family, Morris says she began paying closer attention to how state-level decisions affect communities across Greenbrier County and beyond — especially as the cost of living continues to rise for working families.

“I’m not running to be a career politician,” Morris said. “I’m running because I believe government should be transparent, accessible, and accountable to the people it serves. Elected officials are public servants, and listening has to be part of the job.”

Morris said her campaign is focused on practical policies shaped by lived experience — including support for small, family-owned businesses, lowering the cost of living, reducing unnecessary red tape, and her proposed Welcoming Home West Virginia initiative.

“For too long, economic development has focused on attracting outside companies with incentives that don’t always deliver,” Morris said. “I’m focused on supporting West Virginians — especially those who want to come home, start businesses, and reinvest in the communities they never stopped caring about.”

The initiative is designed to welcome back West Virginians who left for military service, school, or work, while honoring and supporting the families and communities who stayed, held the line, and kept the state running. Morris emphasized that these efforts are about working alongside communities, not over them.

The primary election will be held in May 2026.
