Gang Broken Up
With five of its six members in custody, a gang of moonshiners, said to have been one of the worst in the state in recent times has been broken up. Five miles from any habitation, in a river cannon on Beech Run, with Swiss the nearest village, they had erected a house of drift lumber In this isolated nook, with the rock cliffs serving as sentinel posts, the gang lived. These men had lived so long in the woods, that they had begun to look like wild men, say the arresting officers. To leave their cabin to make any sort of journey they had to cross Gauley River and they kept a boat for this purpose. For this reason and because of the character of the country, it was almost impossible to trail the men to their lair.
