The Little General gas station and a portion of Route 60 in the Sam Black Church area was closed on Tuesday, May 25, due to concern over a suspicious package.
According to West Virginia State Police Sergeant Steven Murphy, commander of the Rainelle detachment, a call came in around 2 p.m. that a suspicious package was located near the gas pumps.
In an abundance of caution, due to the potential for the package to contain a bomb, Trooper C.C. Taylor was first to arrive on scene along with Greenbrier County EMS personnel, members of the Clintonville Fire Department and members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department to evacuate the area until bomb technicians could arrive from Charleston, Murphy stated.
During inspection, the package turned out to be an empty box wrapped in Christmas paper.
The investigation was led by members of the West Virginia State Police, Rainelle detachment.
Route 60 was opened shortly after the area was cleared.
