WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – Police were searching for a man accused of breaking into a home early on May 12 and threatening a woman with a knife in front of her three children and a friend, according to a criminal complaint. He has been found as of May 24 and is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 1:47 a.m. on May 12 in response to a reported breaking and entering in progress. According to the criminal complaint, Dana Crump, 53, forced his way into the home by breaking the front door and proceeded to threaten the victim in the case, with a large kitchen knife.
The victim said she retreated to a bedroom and locked the door with her children and a friend after Crump, identified as a former boyfriend, entered the residence and confronted her. She said Crump held a meat cleaver-style knife to her face and demanded to know why she stopped seeing him. The victim said the relationship ended after another violent incident.
Officers said Crump fled the scene on foot after hearing her on the phone with 911. A search of the area by officers was unsuccessful. However, Crump was later arrested on May 24 in Greenbrier County.
According to the complaint, the victim reported ongoing harassment from Crump since the breakup, including repeated phone calls and confrontations in public. She said she ended the relationship after a single month due to Crump’s violent behavior.
Police said there is probable cause to charge Crump with burglary, brandishing a deadly weapon and domestic battery. The charges are based on witness statements and the victim’s account of the incident. No injuries were reported.
