MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WVDN) — Nonprofits, local governments and small businesses across West Virginia will gain a new advantage this fall at the Grant Expectations Conference, a three-day professional development event dedicated to helping organizations navigate the increasingly complex world of grants.

Hosted by Compass Grant Management Solutions in collaboration with Paragon Business Education Services, the conference will be held November 4–6, 2025 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Morgantown and via livestream for remote participants.

“Grants are powerful tools for change when organizations know how to manage them effectively, from pre-award through post award” said Patricia Porter, founder and CEO of Compass Grant Management Solutions. “Grant Expectations is about empowering attendees with the knowledge, confidence and compliance insight they need to succeed.”

What Attendees Will Learn

Participants will gain practical, up-to-date guidance on topics including:

  • How to write to the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO)
  • Understanding 2 CFR 200 uniform guidance and 2025 updates
  • Navigating Modified Total Direct Costs and NICRA (Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreements)
  • Implementing effective internal controls, budgets and accountability practices under WV 155 CSR 09

Featured speakers include Patricia Porter and Joshua Britt of Compass Grant Management Solutions; Bill Austin, executive director of the Morgantown Monongalia Metropolitan Planning Organization; Stephanie Smith, president of growth and optimization coaching practice Be Brave; and Bethany Hornbeck, president and CEO of federal grant awardee Apis Creative.

Vendors, Exhibitors, and Sponsors

Vendors and exhibitors are invited to participate. The event offers an opportunity to connect directly with decision-makers seeking funding, technology and training solutions. Confirmed sponsors include The Porter Foundation, Laurel Builders, Be Brave, The Shack Neighborhood House, Inc., Barnett Excavating, Apis Creative and Sage & Hollow Hair Boutique.

Registration & Lodging

Registration is $325 and open through October 31. It includes three full days of training, breakfast each morning and beverage service throughout each day. Hotel accommodations can be reserved through the Grant Expectations group rate at Courtyard by Mariott Morgantown.
