GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Just last week during one of several snow storms that have blanketed Greenbrier County, a video captured by ‘Ring’ began circulating social media. Many didn’t realize it was a local video because of how quickly it gained attention. We all see these things on the national news, but how often do we see them garner such large interest in our small town? The caption on the original video read, “Not all heroes wear capes. If anyone knows this UPS driver, he deserves a raise and I would like to thank him” from homeowner Bob McCoy.

The UPS driver in the video, longtime employee Stacy McClure, was seen shoveling heavy snow away from McCoy’s door so that he could safely place the packages out of winter’s unforgiving reach. It was the largest snowfall Greenbrier County has seen this season and unknown to McClure, his good deed was especially meaningful to the McCoy family. Bob McCoy and his wife, Samantha, recently welcomed a baby girl into the world much earlier than expected. Due in March but born in January, she weighed in at nearly 4 lbs and quickly became the sole focus of the family.

“It put a smile on our faces seeing a relative stranger cleaning the snow off our porch so our daughter’s things wouldn’t get ruined,” said Bob McCoy. “It was an incredibly heartwarming act of kindness, when we were so occupied on her in the NICU that we didn’t even realize we needed it.”

McClure’s daughter, Haley McClure, spoke to WVDN and said her dad ” always goes above and beyond to make sure people get their packages on time. He’s told stories about how he stopped at the end of driveways and walked packages up to the houses when the truck couldn’t make it.” She also noted that he has caught dogs and put them back on their leashes after they got loose. He is a true local hero.

During a time where there’s so much negativity, it’s refreshing to know that here in Greenbrier County we seemingly live in a bubble that’s unaffected by the outside world. We still smile and say ‘hello’ to strangers at the store, throw up our hand to wave at a neighbor and some still go above and beyond to help out. If you ask customers on his route, many will have cheerful stories to tell you about Stacy McClure. His kind acts touch not only his customers and the community in general but in this case, a baby girl who is now thriving at home with her family.
