Marjorie “Denece” Sarver Grim

Marjorie “Denece” Sarver Grim, 88, of Lewisburg, passed away at home Thursday, June 5, 2025, following a short illness. Denece was born October 25, 1936, in Ronceverte, to the late William Dennis and Marjorie Via Boone Sarver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Winston Grim; brother, Denny Sarver; and brother-in-law, Ronald L. Madison.

Denece graduated from Lewisburg High School as a member of the Class of 1955. She continued her education at Concord College, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She finished her education at WV Tech and West Virginia University with a Master of Arts in Education. Her teaching career started at Smoot High School in 1959. She moved to Natural Bridge High School and was a physical education teacher from 1965-1969. It was here that she met the love of her life, Winston. They moved back to Lewisburg to help on the Sarver farm and start a family in 1969. Denece went back into the classroom, after the passing of her parents. From 1996-2006, she was a substitute teacher and then a classroom teacher in numerous schools across the county.

Denece was a dedicated member of Calvary United Methodist Church, leading many Christmas programs and Vacation Bible Schools. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Women, serving many roles, including President.

Survivors include daughters, Christy Carver and husband, Matt, Jennifer Seams and husband, Danny, and son, John Grim and wife, Paula, all of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Hallie, Adam (Lauren), Caden, Rylee, Jacob, Daniel Patrick, Wyatt, and Savannah; sisters-in-law, Linda Grim Madison of Roanoke and Laura Baldwin Sarver of Lewisburg; as well as many special nieces and nephews and numerous lifelong special friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, WV, with Pastor Emory Hanna officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Morgan Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service, Wednesday, at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary United Methodist Sunday School for Vacation Bible School c/o Wayne Jones 19790 Midland Trail West, Lewisburg, WV 24901 or to Hospice Care Lewisburg 1265 Maplewood Ave., Lewisburg, WV 24901.
