Washington, D.C. (WVDN) – Yesterday, bipartisan Congressional Energy Export Caucus Co-Chairs, Representatives Carol Miller (R-WV), Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), and Lou Correa (D-CA), released the following statement after the Department of Energy (DOE) announced Monday it would resume processing applications for U.S. companies to export Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).

“Yesterday, the Department of Energy has announced that it will resume the application process of Liquified Natural Gas export permits. As co-chairs of the Congressional Energy Export Caucus, we are pleased that this pause will be lifted. LNG is fundamental to the enrichment of U.S. energy production, and the decision to pause these exports has stifled our energy industry over the last four years. This is just the beginning of the restoration process for unleashing American energy dominance and reviving our economy—and we look forward to working with the Trump administration to ensure that America continues to be the world’s top oil and natural gas producer,” said the Congressional Energy Export Caucus Co-Chairs.

Background:

  • In December 2024, S&P Global released a study of the U.S. LNG export industry and its global impact. This report found that the U.S. LNG industry is vital in keeping the cost of living low and providing energy internationally. It also showed that LNG will play a crucial role in growing the U.S. economy and our energy supply as a whole.
  • In August 2024, the Energy Export Caucus sent a bipartisan letter calling for the Biden administration to approve LNG export permits.
  • In February 2024, the Energy Export Caucus and other Members of Congress sent a letter to President Biden voicing their concerns on the administration’s plan to limit LNG exports.
  • In February 2024, the Energy Export Caucus released a statement on Germany’s SEFE Continuing to Buy LNG from Russia.
