Stella May Lewis
Stella May Lewis, a cherished member of the Renick, WV, community, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on February 23, 1937, Stella spent her entire life in the place she called home, making a lasting impact as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Stella’s journey began in the small town of Renick, where she met and fell in love with Calvin Lewis. The couple wed on February 3, 1953, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership that lasted until Calvin’s passing. A dedicated mother to her four children, Stella was a guiding light to her family. Her nurturing spirit extended to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she devoted a great deal of her time and care.
Professionally, Stella served as a cook at Frankford Elementary School and Renick Jr. High. Known for her selflessness and generous heart, she ensured that no child went hungry under her watch. Her warmth and kindness extended beyond the kitchen to the hallways, where she was a comforting presence to students and staff alike.
Stella’s deep Christian faith was a guiding force throughout her life. As a religious person, she found solace and strength within her community church, where she was an active member. Stella’s belief in the teachings of Christianity influenced her to live a life characterized by kindness, caring, and selflessness. Her life was a testament to the power of faith in lending peace and strength to oneself and others.
She is survived by her children, Stevie Lewis (Roberta Lilly), Pamela McClung Hamilton (Charles Hamilton), Michael Lewis (Angie Lewis), and Patricia Roberts (Patrick Roberts); her grandchildren, Evan Roberts, Haley Roberts, Calvin Roberts, Cole McClung, Kaitlynne Lewis, Brooklyn Clutter, Stevie Lewis, and Danielle Haynes; and her sister, Josephine Workman.
She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Calvin Clarence Lewis; her sister, Mary Cook; and her parents, Vesta Blake and George Washington Blake; along with her grandson, Travis McClung. Stella leaves behind a legacy of love through her extended family and the many lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 19, 2024, in the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a burial in the Morningside Cemetery at Renick. Family and friends will come together to honor and remember Stella’s life and legacy one hour prior to the service, Thursday at the funeral home.
In closing, we are comforted by the words from Psalm 23:4: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” As we bid farewell to Stella, may we carry forward her spirit of kindness and service in our lives.
