Martha “Jane” Hicks
Martha “Jane” Hicks, 78, of Clintonville, passed away on December 3, 2024.
Mom was a member of James Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served on the Dinner Committee and enjoyed being a part of the sewing group. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as President. Mom also served as the secretary and treasurer for United Methodist Ministers Wives at the district level. She was an honorary member of the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, and the scanner in her house always took priority over family conversations. We thank the members of CVFD for taking care of our mom.
Mom loved her garden and somehow always knew the exact date something was going to ruin, if we didn’t come and pick it. She even put onion sets on her Christmas list and couldn’t wait to get them in the ground.
Mom had several medications, but only one that would cure anything. I would often get a text at work simply saying, “Jack, I’m not feeling well. Would you bring me some KFC on your way home?”; and of course, every trip to town included a Big Mac and coffee.
Mom was small, but raising four boys made her strong. She could definitely put us in our place.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Kathleen Patterson; husband, Rev. Jay Hicks; and daughter, Joyce Faye Hicks.
Survivors include her four sons, Johnny and friend, Dee, of Clintonville, Jack and wife, Chris, of Clintonville, Steve and wife, Missy, of Rupert, and Joe and wife, Amanda, of Pocahontas County; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Raines; and a sister-in-law, who was like a sister, Glenna Parrish.
She was a mom, wife, grandma, and great-grandma, and loved packing us all in her house at one time.
In true mom fashion, services will be held at James Chapel United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 8th.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., with the funeral and graveside services directly following at the church.
