FAIRLEA- The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans soccer team had a great season in 2024 and fell just one game shy of securing a trip to the state tournament.
Recently, the team had three players earn all-state honors for their efforts this year.
Senior Ryan White was tabbed a first team midfielder, sophomore Avery Thompson got second team as a defender, and senior Caroline Dotson earned honorable mention honors.
White finished the year with 22 goals and 9 assists. Thompson was a defensive standout that had 11 blank sheets, led the team in tackles, and also scored one goal. Dotson, just several months after ACL surgery, scored 17 goals and assisted on 20 more for her teammates.
East finished the season with a record 16-4-2 that included back-to-back sectional championships.
On top of the three all-state picks, the Spartans had two more on the all-region team. White, Thompson, and Dotson made first team all-region while sophomore Ava Workman was placed on the second team. She had 15 goals and five assists on the year and was a player that head coach Mike Dotson said, “should have gotten more recognition in soccer.”
Defender Trinity Perkins was also named to the all-region second team. She was second on the team in tackles behind Thompson.
