RENICK W.Va. (WVDN) – If you ask any coffee lover what day it is, they will tell you that every day is coffee day. However, National Coffee Day officially began in 2005 and happens only once a year in September. One local company is heating things up this year with the launch of an exclusive blend that can now be found in 13 Food Lion stores throughout the state, including the White Sulphur Springs location. Mountain Table, a small coffee roaster in Renick, was created in January 2023 with the focus of providing organically grown, fairly traded products that are sold in completely compostable packaging.

“Our Cardinal Call Breakfast Blend is a custom roast we did for Food Lion and have worked with their regional buyer, and promotional and marketing team in creating the product,” says Alexander Durand, co-owner of Mountain Table and sales/marketing specialist. “We released it this year, and the first shipment went out in June as part of Food Lion’s Local Goodness Program,” he adds. Through this program, the popular grocery retailer supports local producers and growers with a special section in participating stores. Appropriately named after the West Virginia state bird, the cardinal, this new breakfast blend celebrates the roaster’s home state, as well as their appreciation for quality.

In today’s economy, pricing is an important part of any successful business model. With that in mind, Mountain Table went to work to create a product they hope will reach customers on every level. “We worked with our importer to see what kind of quality beans we could get, worked out a blend and were able to drop our price and still create a product that speaks to our brand,” Durand said. “Our minimum standard is not only tasty coffee, but it has to be fairly traded and organically ground.” With an in-store price of $13.99, the company hopes to attract even the most discerning coffee connoisseur. “It’s a light roast, breakfast blend and it’s nice for an early morning caffeine pick me up,” Durand added.

Mountain Table is a Renick-based company, that is co-owned by Alexander Durand, Nadine Sonneville and Nicole Petschulat. The company is 60% women-owned and operated.
