RONCEVERTE W.Va. (WVDN) – After closing the Ronceverte Food Pantry a couple of months ago at the Clifford Armory, a new location opened up this past Saturday for their grand opening.
The new location is at 900 Monroe Ave. in Ronceverte, the old RJs Arcade, but the building is just a temporary landing spot that the food pantry is renting from the city of Ronceverte.
Bob Daniels, President of the Ministerial Association and Chairman of the Food Pantry Board confirmed that the old Nazarene church building across the street from Ronceverte Baptist Church would be the new spot, but not in the church building. The plan is to tear down the old church, which Daniels said was an “eye sore” and construct a permanent location for the food pantry, and that could start within a month or so.
“In the next 30 days, the demo could start. It has asbestos which makes the demo cost more. We have the funds to go ahead and tear it down,” Daniels said.
Constructing the new location will take some funds which Daniels said they are soliciting grants and so forth to help out with the cost.
“The new construction could cost around $175,000,” Daniels stated.
Having the food pantry open and getting a permanent location is a high priority because of the number of families that rely upon it each month.
“We have 180 families each month. They must live in the city of Ronceverte to use it. We are open every second and fourth Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.,” Daniels explained.
Daniels stated that if anyone in the community, individuals or businesses, would like to donate to help and replenish some of the costs of the demolition and construction project, donations can be made and/or mailed to the future permanent address at: Ronceverte Food Pantry, 426 Main St. W. Ronceverte, WV 24970.
They are a 501-C non-profit organization.
“We would greatly appreciate anything anyone is able to donate. It would be a huge help,” Daniels concluded.
