SINKS GROVE W.Va. (WVDN) – A new Mountain Music Jam is on the horizon! On Sunday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m., the very first Jammin’ at the Hunkerdown – a Mountain Music Jam of Appalachian and Celtic tunes and songs, will take place at the Hunkerdown Coffeehouse at 110 Fort Springs Road, Sinks Grove, WV.
Cheryl Mansley and Mary Dailey of the Appalachian vocal duo Little Maggie and Tammy and Guy McAninch, owners of The Hunkerdown, are excited to bring this event to the community. Mansley and Dailey will host the jam and say traditional and jam-friendly original material will be welcome. Acoustic instruments only, please.
The Hunkerdown is a community-oriented coffee shop in a historic general store in the heart of Sinks Grove. Its name was inspired by the stories and legacy of the original Hunkerdown, a local gathering place from times past, that brought community together from far and wide. Tammy McAninch will tell you that the term hunker down means to stay in a place for a period of time to seek refuge or safety. That’s what she and her husband, Guy, want The Hunkerdown to be. A place where the community can come and stay a while for coffee, for relationships, for life.
Parking at The Hunkerdown is available along Fort Springs Road, the lot adjacent to The Hunkerdown, the Post Office, and the lot on the corner of Route 3, also known as Wayside Creamery Road. When parking, please be respectful of neighbors’ driveways.
Jammin’ at the Hunkerdown will typically take place monthly on a Sunday. Homemade soup, fresh-baked bread, pastries, coffee, tea, and more will be available for purchase.
