FAIRLEA- This Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Valley View Country Club in White Sulphur, the Linda Underwood Memorial Golf Tournament will tee off at 9:00 AM. There is also a 2:00 PM group and 12 teams participating.
The tournament was created by George Underwood, Linda’s husband, to honor his wife who passed away from brain cancer and to give back to the local Peyton Hospice House, located beside the new Secure Storage and across from Greenbrier East High School.
Linda stayed at the Hospice House for a little more than two-and-a-half months and the staff there impressed George so much, he knew he had to do something to show his appreciation for the staff.
“They did a wonderful job,” George said.
I decided to put on a golf tournament to show my appreciation for all of them. All proceeds taken in from the tournament will go directly to the Peyton Hospice House,” he added.
The tournament has received sponsorships from the likes of Pepsi, Wal-Mart, and American Beer, among others.
“We have had a lot of support for this cause from a lot of companies. We are so appreciative of all the local people who have helped out in support of my wife,” George said.
George said he is looking forward to the tournament and wanted to offer one final shout out to the place that he will cherish forever.
“I just cannot thank the Hospice House enough,” George stated.
All of them were so good to Linda the whole time she was there. The house and its whole staff are just tremendous,” he concluded.
