SUMMERSVILLE W.Va. (WVDN) – A man has drowned in Summersville Lake. The West Virginia State Police released the following statement:

“On Monday, July 15, 2024, at 8:51 pm, Trooper L. L. Cox received a call in reference to a missing person. The victim, identified as 44 year old Scott David Saylor of Morgantown, WV had not been heard from since the afternoon of the day prior. According to family members, David Saylor messaged them and advised he was going swimming. A ping of Saylor’s cell phone showed him being located at the beach area of Summersville Lake. Trooper Cox located his vehicle with the parking ticket which had been purchased at 4:12 pm on July 14th. Trooper Cox also located his socks, shoes, phone, sunscreen, towel, and backpack under a picnic table at the end of the beach area. Trooper Cox, Trooper Mitchell, DNR Sgt. Fitzwater, Noach Allen worked with Search and Rescue, and the Army Corp of Engineers to complete an initial search of the immediate swimming area with boats and sonar. Mr. Saylor could not be located and was placed in NCIC.

“On 07-19-2024 at approximately 8:20 hours a boater located Mr. Saylor in the water near where he was last seen swimming. Tpr. L.L. Cox was notified and responded to the scene and the body was recovered from the water.

“The Nicholas County Medical Examiner, Brandy McClellan, also responded to the scene. Mr. Saylor’s body is being transported to The State Medical Examiner for a complete autopsy.

“At this point in the investigation, no foul play is suspected. This investigation remains active and ongoing.”
