BRIDGEPORT- Beckley Post 32, an American Legion summer league team that features three former Greenbrier East Spartans– Peyton DeHaven, Gabe Patton and Gavin Bennett– and former Greenbrier West Cavalier Dale Boone, went 6-0 over the weekend and were crowned champions of the Timbuck Shields Memorial Tournament in Bridgeport.
In their final game on Sunday–they played three–Beckley beat Latrobe Post 515 7-5 and came back from a 5-0 deficit. However, they did it without recording a single hit. Beckley Post 32 drew 16 walks in the game that helped lead to their seven-run total. It is rare for a team to score that many runs without getting a hit, and it also uncommon to win a game when being no-hit by the opposing team.
Boone threw a complete game that included a shutout over the last four innings. He got two hitters to ground into double plays at critical times and sat down the Jethawks 1-2-3 in the final frame. Boone scattered eight hits, five runs, three walks, and he struck out five in the win.
Beckley Post 32 got all of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
DeHaven had a good weekend, especially on Sunday. The former Greenbrier East player and Concord signee went 4-9 with five runs, a double, and four RBIs.
Beckley is back in action this Wednesday, June 19 at Elkins Post 29.
