David J. Barbour, 78, of Glen Dale, WV, and formerly of Lewisburg, WV, died Saturday, February 16, 2019, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born April 11, 1940, in Glen Dale, and was a son of the late John and Ruth Ann (Kirby) Barbour.
After graduating high school, he attended West Liberty State College in West Liberty, WV. He was retired from the State Electric Supply Company in Lewisburg. He attended the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran. David loved history and was an avid Civil War historian. He also enjoyed collecting Civil War artifacts and creating scrimshaw.
He is survived by his loving companion, Beth McIntyre of St. Clairsville, OH, and her family; three sons, Christopher Barbour (Dee Dee) of Glen Dale, Matthew Barbour (Holly) of Bethlehem, WV, and Kirby Barbour (Melissa) of Cary, NC; and six grandchildren, Carson Knight Barbour, Adeline Lee Barbour, Hayden Knight Barbour, Jack Knight Barbour, Wade Anton Barbour, and Luke Edward Barbour.
At David’s request, there will be no visitation. Friends will be received on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 12 p.m. for a memorial service at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV, 26041, with Pastor Adam Mick officiating. Military honors will follow.
