The Greenbrier Valley is in the thick of coyote breeding season, which stretches approximately from December through March. Pups will start appearing come spring, after a 50-60 day gestation period and several months in which the mother coyote will keep the pups in the den and out of sight.
Information tends to circulate at this time of year about increased aggression in coyotes, but according to Division of Natural Resources (DNR) District Wildlife Biologist Todd Dowdy, the animals are not typically more aggressive during breeding season – just more vocal, more active, and more likely to be traveling.
