MARTINSBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – The West Virginia State Chapter of P.E.O., a women’s philanthropic educational organization, held its annual convention on April 26 and 27 in Martinsburg. Hostess Chapters were S, Martinsburg, and W and AD, Morgantown. A total of 140 women attended the 61st convention including state officers, past state presidents, delegates from the 28 chapters, members, visitors and guests.

International Representative Karen Fite, Chapter U, GA, gave the keynote address on “The Art of Possibilities.” State President Kathy Reese presided over the two-day convention, using her theme, “Journey of the P.E.O. Heart.” Delegates and members of Lewisburg Chapters, F, O and V, participated in the convention.

Officers for the coming year were elected and installed. President Linda Cowan-Youssef, Wheeling; Vice President Karen S. Colson, Martinsburg; Organizer Julie Olin, Middlebourne; Treasurer Barbara Pavel-Alvarez, Fairmont; and our Lewisburg sister, Laura Lee Haddad, Chapter V, secretary.

P.E.O. supports seven educational loans and scholarships for women students from graduating high school seniors through Ph.D. candidates. This year West Virginia members donated over $53,000 to the scholarship funds.
