In a dystopian future America, the states are divided with California and Texas sided against the United States Government. They are trying to overthrow the current government and take control of the country.
We meet embedded journalists Lee, Joel and Sammy, along with Jessie, who is trying to become a photojournalist. Lee, Joel and Sammy are making plans to get from New York to Washington to interview the President. He hasn’t been seen in person for a while and getting an interview would be a big deal. Jessie manages to secure a ride with them despite Lee’s thinking it’s a bad idea and they head off on their journey.
Along their journey, we see the aftereffects of a country at war as they must navigate roads littered with useless vehicles, bodies and other debris. Our journalists must deal with how to get much-needed supplies in an area not so friendly. In a lovely moment we see our crew step into a town and shop and momentarily forget there’s a war going on.
There are also plenty of edge-of-your-seat moments that take each main character right into the thick of the battle to get the best photos, and the best angles, to tell the story.
There’s a particularly scary moment for Jessie when she gets a gun pointed at her anhd asked “But what kind of American are you?“ This movie gives you chills up and down your spine in all the right ways.
Sammy, Lee, Joel and Jessie are routed through West Virginia on their way to Washington. A nice addition to an already awesome movie. The ending of this movie has spectacular visuals. The cinematography is on point.
To find out what happens to our journalists, go watch Civil War for yourself.
I give this film five stars!
