Dolphis Ray Wood, 80, of Lewisburg, WV, passed away on Monday, October
15, 2018, at Carilion Ronoake Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA,
following a short illness.
He was born on June 7, 1938, on Zion Mountain in Hinton, WV, to Henry
Dell Wood and Annie Lucy Hill Wood.
Mr. Wood, a Christian, attended the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in
Alderson, WV. He graduated from Alderson High School in 1956, then
enlisted in the U.S. Army. Mr. Wood retired in 2000 from Mon Power,
formerly VEPCO, after 36 years of service as a lineman. He loved the
outdoors and was an avid hunter.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his
brothers, Pete Wood, Lacy Wood, and Ira Wood; and his sisters, Bessie
Humphries, Arlis Richmond, and Edith Knapp.
He is survived by his first wife of 57 years, Carol Sue Miller Wood; his
daughters, Teresa L. Rice and her husband, Mark, of Huntington, WV, and
Angela F. Reynolds and her husband, Tom, of Lewisburg; his
grandchildren, Zach and Michaela Rice, of Huntington, and Ethen Reynolds
of Lewisburg; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018, at
the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson with the Rev. Dr. Bill
Bryan officiating. Burial will follow at Alderson Cemetery in Alderson
with military honors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 18, 2018, from 6-8
p.m. at Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson, and also one hour prior to the
service at the church on Friday.
Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson is in charge of arrangements.
