Otis Sanders Miles, age 76, of Maxwelton, WV, passed away at his home on
Wednesday, October 3, 2018.
He was born on March 2, 1942, in Elkhorn, WV, grew up in Powhatan, WV,
and graduated from Northfork High School.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1961 as a topographical draftsman and was
stationed in Germany, where he developed his love of travel and photography.
After he left the Army, he attended Concord College in Athens, WV, where
he earned his BS in Education. It was also where he met his wife, Dottie
(Dunn), and they married in September 1966. They later moved to
Maxwel-ton, where they built their current home. Otis taught at
Frankford Elementary School for 27 years and retired from teaching in
1999. Throughout the years, he was actively involved with Clifton
Presbyterian Church, as well as using his talent in woodworking to craft
furniture and gifts for family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dottie Miles; a
younger sister, Ellen Butt of Princeton, WV; and his parents, Berry and
Maggie Miles of Powhatan.
Otis is survived by his son, Russell “Rusty” Miles; daughter-in-law,
Lisa Pashion Miles; and granddaughter, Jessica Miles, all of Columbia,
MD; and a sister, Scarlett Goosens of Powhatan.
A memorial service will be held at Clifton Presbyterian Church in
Maxwel-ton, on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 1 p.m.
The family will receive visitors to share their memories of Otis
following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his
honor to Clifton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 200, 16513 Seneca Trail
North, Maxwelton, WV 24857.
McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
