CHARMCO- The Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers suffered their first loss of the season on Monday, March 25 when they were shutout 4-0 by Class AAA’s Shady Spring Tigers.
It was a pitchers’ duel between the Cavs Brilee Redden and Shady’s Raegan Lane. Redden allowed four runs, but none of them were earned. She scattered just four hits and struck out nine. Redden also had a double on offense.
Lane had 12 strikeouts and gave up just three hits to West (5-1).
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Cavalier error that allowed Kaylee Waddell to score.
That score remained until the fourth inning when Shady scored three insurance runs to put the game out of reach. They scored on a passed ball at home and then brought two more runs in on two errors in the same sequence. That iced the game and was more than enough run support for Lane.
Brooklyn Adkins walked to open the bottom of the seventh, but Lane got the next three outs to seal the win for Shady Spring.
Jayla Joyce went 2-3 with a run scored for Shady.
Hannah Sweet, Redden, and Preslee Treadway each had one hit for Greenbrier West.
West will host Nicholas County today, March 26 in hopes of getting back in the win column.
