Beckley, W.Va. (WVDN) – The annual WVU Day of Giving challenges alumni, faculty, staff and friends of WVU Tech to donate to Tech’s scholarship and student need funds. This year’s Day of Giving is Wednesday, March 20, 2024. The 24-hour fundraising campaign is a chance for donors across the WVU system to support the departments and programs that matter to them.
The funds WVU Tech is highlighting this year are the William Benn Student Success Fund, the Golden Bear Athletics General Fund, The Golden Bear Alumni Association General Fund and the WVU Tech General Scholarship Fund. While these are the featured funds for this year, donors can make contributions to any WVU Tech fund.
Donating to Tech during the Day of Giving helps to unlock matching funds and other challenges, which make contributions even more impactful. This year, a challenge from The Golden Bear Alumni Association (TGBAA). The first thirteen gifts of any amount will unlock $13,000 additional dollars from TGBAA.
Director of Development Jonathan Grose says the support for Tech on Day of Giving goes beyond just financial.
“Every donation is important when dealing with the futures of families in southern West Virginia. The amount donated isn’t as important as our community coming together to support the college in our backyard. On March 20th, show up for the students at Tech and let them know you support their efforts,” Grose says.
Last year, the student success fund was renamed to the William Benn Student Success Fund to honor the legacy of Golden Bear veteran William “Bill” Benn. Benn was a student at WVU Tech in the 1960s and had to take a hiatus from his studies due to financial concerns. He enlisted in the military to save money so he could return to school but tragically lost his life in Vietnam before he was able to do so. Donations to this fund will help continue to bridge the gap for current and future Golden Bears completing their degrees.
Donations to the Golden Bear Athletics General Fund will help support student-athletes in Tech’s 18 athletics teams.
The Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association General Fund will support the Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association (TGBAA) to help pay it forward for other Golden Bears. TGBAA supports student needs, scholarships, mentorship programs and many other activities on campus that benefit students both past and present.
“If a student is great enough to admit to Tech, they are great enough to graduate from Tech. Donations made during Day of Giving will continue to ensure Golden Bears can persist to graduation and become alumni,” says Dr. T. Ramon Stuart, President of WVU Tech.
The benefit of donating to WVU Tech on the WVU Day of Giving features several challenges that boost donor gifts. These challenges have funding attached to them, and if those challenges are met, an additional donation is made.
