CHARMCO- Here is a fun stat for the Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers softball team.
They have played more games (2) than they have allowed hits (0) and runs (0).
You read that correctly.
The Cavs have outscored their first two opponents 30-0 and have yet to allow a hit. Sure, it is only two games, but it’s an impressive number and it is sort of reminiscent of the Cavalier football team this past fall when they did not allow a point in a stretch of five-out-of-six games. That football team advanced to the state championship game.
In their first win over Summers County by a score of 22-0, the Bobcats were just simply outmatched to put it lightly.
West scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning then added 12 more in the second. The game was called after the top of the third.
The Cavs are also showing some depth early. Ava Price had a home run and drove in a team-high five RBIs and freshman Diana Porter went 2-3 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Brilee Redden, who typically is found on the mound but played in the field in this one, also scored three runs as did pitcher Kyndall Taylor. Speaking of Taylor, she pitched 3 innings and struck out seven hitters to pick up the victory.
On Thursday night, March 14, Greenbrier West faced Nicholas County and recorded their second shutout with an 8-0 win. West got going early in the bottom of the first and did it all with two outs. Preslee Treadway doubled, Maddie Fields laid down a bunt single that allowed Treadway to score, and Julia Herndon hit an RBI single to center, and then she scored on a base knock from Brooklyn Adkins.
Over the next five at-bats, the Cavs scored one run every inning to put the game away. Redden got the pitching win with a complete game and nine strikeouts. The sophomore looked to be in midseason form and her defense behind her was very good as West did not commit an error on the night compared to five miscues from the Lady Grizzlies.
Hannah Sweet (2-3, RBI, run), Adkins (2-2, RBI), and Fields (2-4, run, 2 RBIs) all had multiple hit games for the Cavs. Herndon scored three runs and Redden also added a triple and two runs.
Greenbrier West will take Friday off and return to action this Saturday, March 16 at Richwood.
