OAK HILL- It took just three innings on Wednesday, April 10 for the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans to rack up 14 hits and 18 runs in a crushing 18-0 defeat of the Oak Hill Lady Red Devils.

East put up five runs in the first inning, seven in the second, and six in the third in a contest that was never in doubt from the first pitch forward.

The Spartans got on the board with Taylor Boswell’s 2-run double that scored Alanis McClary and Hailey Ervin. Then, a 2-run single later in the frame from Aly Martin made it 4-0. Gracie Gumm’s RBI groundout capped the scoring in the first.

Ervin singled with one out in the second and that brought Boswell to the plate again where she delivered in a big way—again—with a 2-run home run to center field. That made it 7-0, East. By the time the inning ended, and after McClary’s run scoring base hit, the score was 12-0.

The third inning featured even more action and offense for the ladies in green and gold. Kayla Bartley homered to center, then the very next batter, Lily Carola did the same. Later in the inning, three consecutive singles from Liz Wooding, Jenna Groves, and McClary all produced runs.

Carola sat the Red Devils down in order to complete her three-inning no-hitter to go along with five strikeouts.

Six Spartans had multiple hit games. McClary (2-3, run, 2 RBIs) Ervin (2-4, 2 runs, RBI), Boswell (2-4, HR, 2 runs, 4 RBIs), Carola (2-2, HR, 3 runs, RBI), Martin 2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), and Wooding (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) all finished with two hits each. Bartley and Carola scored three runs apiece.

East will host Princeton on Thursday, April 11 if the weather cooperates, which as of now, it seems like it will not. We will update here if the game is canceled.
