ALDERSON W.Va. (WVDN) – Debra Bowman, Secretary of the Maxwelton Ruritan Club, presented the Alderson Quilters Guild with a donation to use for Quilts of Valor. Quilts of Valor (QOV.org) is a national organization that awards veterans or service members who have been touched by war a handmade quilt. A veteran must be nominated and accepted. Then, this information is sent to the local guild. The Alderson chapter makes the beautiful quilts that are given to local veterans. Accepting the donation was the Treasurer of the Alderson Quilters Guild, Patricia Humphreys, and Guild President, Sheila Maxey.
The Maxwelton Ruritan is a local community service organization that has served the area for over 75 years. The members volunteer each year at the State Fair of WV, selling ice cream to fund their projects. The club supports local Fire Departments, Penny Pitch, HOSA and many other deserving groups. The club has purchased six fire hydrants for the Maxwelton Community in the last two years and had them installed along Vago Road and other areas.
