Coach Davis Solak Quotes about the Weekend:
On the Spring Mills Victory and where it ranks on the win list since he has been here:
“As far as moments in a dual meet, that would rank as the best win I have had as a coach. I remember we went to Musselman to wrestle them during Covid, and they smoked us. So, it felt really good take it to upset them. It was fun to move the lineup around and put that team and their coaches in a bind. To follow up, with Calvin Roberts sealing it for us what an awesome experience. However, the individual wins would be Thomas Mullins and Calvin Roberts winning their semifinals matches and advancing to the finals match at the state tournament. So, both are really hard to compare.”
On his thoughts of how his team did overall:
“Overall, I believe we did well. There definitely are some areas we need to improve on before regionals, but typically people have always looked down on GEHS Wrestling. It was nice to qualify for the tournament and also make a statement by beating a quality team like Spring Mills and competing with Wheeling Park. Hopefully, that will put us on the map. However, we still have to improve and beat some quality opponents to be the best we can be.”
On the experience and how his wrestlers can build on it moving forward:
“Yes, this is an experience we can continue to build on. Hopefully, we can get more wins next year and finish even higher.”
On what’s next for his team:
“We will have a dual meet at Oak Hill High School on Wednesday and our Coalfield Conference Championship on the weekend. Then, Regionals the following week.”
