WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – White Sulphur Springs is home to a new small business, but there is nothing small about the hard work and dedication at Mill Creek Homestyle Bakery. This new business will bring love and endless smiles to your table this week!
Emily Burns, owner of Mill Creek Homestyle Bakery, is a busy bee as she embarks on her soft opening on Thursday, Jan 25. Opening at 7 a.m., Burns hopes to bring her love of cooking and baking to the people, one smile at a time. Burns will be baking sourdough and white bread loaves, dinner rolls and her famous apple cakes. Second Chance Farm and Greenhouse is where she couldn’t keep the buyers fed, rolling out her heirloom recipe for apple cakes. Also available are cookies, croissants, cinnamon rolls, flaky biscuits, cupcakes, hand pies (flaky crust pies) in savory or sweet, sticky buns, breakfast pastry boxes, Black Dog Coffee and specialty cakes, all baked in-house. The delights will be beautifully decorated by Naomi Martin, who owns the local small business, “Nothing But Cakes.”
The lunch menu will be simple. Burns said, “We will have simple foods that a lot of people around here want. Stuffed croissants, hot dogs, baked potatoes, soups, BBQ, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal with fresh fruits and more. The menu will grow as the customer base grows. I want to see what people will like and order. Food is my love language; I love people through my food. It really makes me happy and to do what I love [is a blessing].”
Burns attended college, initially seeking a law degree. She has six children, which are her joy. She recently lost her best friend in June of 2023, who was the driving force behind Burns going out on her own to give the people what they want, her delicious homemade baked goods. Burns says she knows she’s being watched over. She mentions the community support and is elated at the response and encouragement the people of White Sulphur Springs have been showing her.
