Arthur “Stubby” Jennings Honaker
Arthur “Stubby” Jennings Honaker, 90, of Caldwell, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV, after a long illness.
Born December 17, 1933, in Caldwell, WV, he was a son of the late Arthur Lee Honaker and Iva Lockhart Honaker.
Arthur served in The United States Air Force in the early 1950s. He worked as a laborer and was a 50 year member of the Laborers International Union of North America. He had a passion for hunting, going for walks, feeding the deer and birds, and star gazing. He also has a passion for his dogs. Arthur had frequent flyer miles at The Caldwell Thrift Store. In the past few years, he had a saying that he was crazy and had a dog named Daisey. He would tell everyone that.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Jesse, Richard, Eugene, Marquerite Ford, Anna Critzer, Betty Belcher, Mary Dahmer, and Anita Stuhr. He is also preceded in death by Curtis James Dowdy, who was like a son to him. Also preceding are his dogs, Bill, Skeeter, Happy, Hallie, and Elmo.
He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Susanna (Sue ) Honaker; daughter, Charlotte (Andy) Smith; and Sabrina Dowdy Smith (Paton), who was like a daughter to him. Arthur also had many nieces and nephews, too many to name, that he cared deeply about.
The family would like to thank everyone that gave their assistance in taking him to doctor appointments, visiting, and all their support throughout the last few years.
A celebration of life is tentatively planned for Memorial Day 2024 on top of Kate’s Mountain at 1 p.m. to share his memories.
