FAIRLEA, WV- The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans put together one heck of a performance on Wednesday, Dec. 27 when they defeated a very good Wyoming East team 75-52 in the varsity championship game of the Holiday Tournament.

East seems to be hitting their stride after a 3-game losing streak. They defeated Berkeley Springs 93-40 the night before and with the win over Wyoming East, the Spartans have won four in a row and have run their record to 7-3.

East led just 19-16 after one quarter, but the second quarter may have been the best the Spartans have played all season on both ends of the court. They outscored the Warriors 23-7 as Hannah Fuller was dominant on the inside and Ava Workman, Kennedy Stewart, and Jada Waller held force on the wings.

Against Greenbrier West on Tuesday, Wyoming East (6-2) showed the capability to steal passes and steal the ball from ballhandlers, and even though the Spartans did turn the ball over 17 times, they forced the Warriors into 25 so the turnovers did not hurt the Spartans as much as one would think.

Rebounding also played a big role in the win. Fuller and Mackenna McClure, who both had double-doubles, helped East win the battle of the boards 43-26, and considering the Warriors owned the glass against the Cavaliers, it was an impressive performance overall by East.

Workman was the game-high scorer with 21 points and added five steals. Fuller (17 pts, 10 reb, 3 blk) and McClure (12 pts, 12 reb) were huge in the victory. Stewart added 10 points for East and Waller had 9 points and 6 assists.

Making the win even more impressive was that East shot just 17 percent from 3-point range, but they were good from 2-point territory and shot 46 percent overall.

Cadee Blackburn led Wyoming East with 16 points and Kyndal Lusk got 15.

The Spartans are at home on Jan. 6 and will host Grafton.

Scoring by Quarter:

            1          2          3          4     Total

WE      16        7          15       14       52

GE       19       23        14        19       75

GE Individual Scoring: Workman 21, Fuller 17, McClure 12, Stewart 10, Ja. Waller 9, Ka. Waller 2, Jo. Banton 2, Wooding 2
