MONROE COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – According to a recent statement from the Monroe County Clerk’s Office via social media, a deputy recently received a “glowing” letter from U.S. Marshals.
The announcement said, “The Monroe County Commission, Elected Officials and Courthouse Staff wish to express their sincere gratitude to Officer Jeremy “Bucky” Oliver Jr. Earlier last week, the Sheriff’s Office and Commission received a glowing letter from the United States Marshal Service.”
Additionally, the statement included a copy of the letter. It reads, “The purpose of this memorandum is to bring attention to the assistance that Deputy Jeremy ‘Bucky’ Oliver provided during a yearlong manhunt for Samuel Heartman and his criminal associates. The United States Marshal Service Major Case fugitive Samuel Heartman, his mother Linda White, and his wife Misty Heartman were wanted in connection to a brazen daylight prison escape from an Arkansas Prison on 12 August 2022. During the escape the suspects fired at guards as Samuel Heartman fled a prison work crew and jumped into a waiting SUV. Once inside the SUV the group sped off and traveled to waiting jet skis. Once at the jet skis the group fled down the Mississippi river to complete their escape. On 20 August 2023, they were eventually tracked down and were taken into custody in Lewisburg, WV.
“Deputy Oliver provided critical information to the investigation into the whereabouts of violent fugitives Samuel Heartman, Linda White, and Misty Heartman. Without the assistance and cooperation that Deputy Oliver provided the USMS investigators, the violent armed group would still be on the run today.
“This Deputy went above and beyond to assist the United States Marshals Service and fostered a cohesive working relationship between local, state, and federal law enforcement entities. The United States Marshals Service for the Southern District of West Virginia wants to personally thank Deputy Oliver for his commendable actions in bringing this violent group to justice.
“Sincerely,
Michael T. Baylus
U. S. Marshal
And
Fredrick Lamey
Deputy U. S. Marshal”
In conclusion, the statement described how proud the authors are of Deputy Oliver and how grateful the community is to have such a dedicated officer. It states, “We are extremely proud of you Deputy ‘Bucky.’ You are a great asset as an employee and to the county!”
Finally, the statement noted, “We would also like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional work that West Virginia State Police, Monroe County Deputies, First Responders and 911 Telecommunicators consistently provide to our community, especially during the multi-day manhunt of Anthony Charles Meyers.
“Thank you once again for your unwavering commitment to our community. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and they are deeply valued.”
