Donald Wilson Brown, 80, of Fairlea, WV, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018, at home, after a long illness.
Born May 9, 1937, in Renick, WV, he was the son of the late Asa Wilson Brown and Lettie Rapp Brown.
Mr. Brown was a graduate of Renick High School Class of 1954, West Virginia University Class of 1959, and a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was a member and Elder of Old Stone Presbyterian Church. He served as the State Fire Marshall, WV Insurance Commissioner, and State Director of the WV Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of the USDA.
Don was devoted to his family. He was deeply loved and respected; he will be greatly missed.
Throughout his life and especially in his retirement, Don enjoyed working on the family farm and pursuing his quest for unique antiques. He never failed to bring home a chair that caught his eye.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dee McKnight Brown; their children, Audrey Ellen Brown Williams (Royce) of Nashville, TN, Anne McKnight Robinson (Max) of Renick, and Stuart Wilson Brown (Amy) of Lewisburg, WV; grandchildren, Justin, James, and Lettie Williams, Hannah Mihok (Michael), Katie, Ben, and Nathan Robinson, and Nixon, Jeb, Grace, and Asa Brown; and sister, Betty Huff (Richard) of Waynesboro, VA.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2018, at Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, with the Rev. Dr. Anna Straight officiating. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery in Renick.
Friends and family will be received from 5–7 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
The family is especially grateful for the loving care Don received from caregivers Sandy Alderman, Carol Holt, Dawn Farrell, the staff of Peyton Hospice House, and the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging.
