Dr. James Randall McCutcheon, age 75, of Union, WV passed away Friday, January 26, 2018, at his residence.
Born July 27, 1942, at Reedy, WV, Randy or “Doc” was the son of the late Edgar and Edna West Mc-Cutcheon.
Dr. McCutcheon was a 1960 graduate of Spencer High School. Following his graduation, he furthered his education at West Virginia University, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocational agriculture. He then earned his PhD in agriculture education from Ohio State University.
Dr. McCutcheon started his profession and his love for farming in Monroe County as a dairy farmer and vocational agriculture teacher. Later, he served as Principal of Union High School and Vice Principal of James Monroe and Greenbrier East High schools until his retirement in 2006.
He served as the West Virginia state FFA president and a national FFA vice president. He was a 4-H International Farm Youth Exchange delegate to India, a National Junior sheep shearing champion, and a 15-time West Virginia sheep shearing state champion.
Dr. McCutcheon was a Master Gardener and community leader. He served on the Union town council for 17 years as council member and town recorder, and as mayor. He was also a dedicated church member, having served in many offices at the Union United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Lois Wood McCutcheon of Union, WV; one son, Jefferson Scott McCutcheon and wife, Lisa, of St. Louisville, OH, and their two children, Morgan Ashley and Sean Christopher McCutcheon; one daughter, Jennifer (McCutcheon) Mullins and husband, Scott, of Fort Wayne, IN, and their two children, Lauren Elizabeth and Sarah Anne Mullins; two brothers, Durward McCutcheon of Reedy, WV, and Calvin McCutcheon and wife, Sandra, of Buckhannon, WV; two sisters, Loretta Florence and husband, Charles, of Morgantown, WV, and Phyllis Metzger and husband, Brad, of Madison, VA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Union United Methodist Church in Union, WV with the Rev. Frank Naglic and Dr. John Sauvage officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 4, at the Boggs Cemetery at Reedy.
Friends may call Friday, February 2, from 5-8 p.m. at the Groves Funeral Home in Union.
