LEWISBURG, WV- Earlier this week, Greenbrier East Lady Spartan shortstop Taylor Boswell took to social media to announce her college softball commitment to the University of Charleston.
As a junior in 2023, Boswell was a second team all-state performer and hit .425 with five home runs and 40 RBIs. Also a stellar defensive player, Boswell will give Charleston a reliable option in the lineup and on the field.
The current senior said her school of choice had a home feel to it, and that was a very important aspect in the selection process.
“The thing that sold me on Charleston is when I met a few of the players and the coaches. They made me feel so welcome and I felt like I fit right in with them. I also loved the campus because it felt like home,” Boswell explained.
Boswell, who just recently celebrated her 18th birthday, hopes to be a big contributor once she hits the field, but academics are also important to her as well.
“My goals once I get to UC are to focus on school and work hard each and every day to get better. And to have a huge impact on the softball program,” she said.
However, before she gets there a year from now, Boswell and her Spartan teammates still have a high school season coming up this Spring of 2024, and her unfinished business on the Spartan field and high expectations for the team remains her priority. She’s also happy to not have the college distraction looming over her so she can focus on her what should be ‘huge’ senior season.
“I am so happy about my commitment and getting it out of the way so I can focus on my senior season,” Boswell said.
“I have many goals for this season. I truly want something very special for the Lady Spartans softball program this year,” she concluded.
