Stephen Ray Vandevander, 75, of Charles Town, WV, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.
Born on December 19, 1942, in Franklin, WV, he was the son of the late Albert Ray and Shirley Moyers Vandevander.
He was a graduate of Lewisburg High School in 1960 and a graduate of West Virginia University. He was an educator with Hancock County Schools in West Virginia. He was a member of Lisbon First United Methodist Church in Lisbon, Ohio. He coached football, basketball, and softball.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Mosser Vandevander; two sons, Stephen J. Vandevander and wife, Melissa, of Frederick, MD, and Joseph R. Vandevander and wife, Genevieve, of Charles Town; one granddaughter, Chloe Vandevander; two brothers, Eugene Vandevander and wife, Elizabeth, of Kimball, WV, and Lacy Vandevander of Bridgeport, WV; and one sister, Linda Wilson of Organ Cave, WV.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 11 a.m. at Lisbon First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
