A request by the Greenbrier Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to dismiss a $450,000 loan owed to the Greenbrier County Commission has been rejected by the commission.
The CVB previously asked the County Commission to forgive the remaining balance on the debt in December, saying that the $90,000 yearly payments normally go to marketing the area to potential tourists. In addition, CVB board of directors president Mike Kidd stated at the same meeting that several state-level grant matching programs the CVB previously took advantage of have been discontinued. According to Kidd, the CVB was granted $150,000 over the course of several years through these programs, a budget increase for the CVB that is no longer available.
