ALDERSON, WV- On July 4, during the large celebration in Alderson, the Run for Snacks 5k took place in town. The event benefits the Alderson Elementary Snacks in Packs program. The sponsor, Tri State Racer, also helps the community by promoting fitness and raising millions for charity.
Runners started at the Alderson Memorial football field and continued through a scenic route along the Greenbrier River and right through the town as well.
The race had 91 participants finish, which included 56 males and 35 females.
Four local runners finished in the top five overall of their respective gender categories. Hoss Riggs, of Alderson, finished fifth overall on the male side with a time of 20:39.8.
Three girls finished in the top five on the female side. Abby Dixon (22:32.6) and Kaylee Dixon (25:08.7), both of Lewisburg, excelled and finished in second and third place, respectively.
Alderson’s Josie Hanna was fourth with a time of 25:15.8.
