BLACKSBURG, Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier East Spartans football roster hit the road to Blacksburg, VA to the campus of Virginia Tech and scrimmaged in a 7-on-7 setting and went through a big man camp with some of their linemen.
Schools from West Virginia who participated were the Spartans, Herbert Hoover, George Washington, Princeton, Hurricane, Musselman, Princeton, Bluefield, and Point Pleasant. East finished 29 out of 44 teams. The only mountain state schools that finished ahead of East were George Washington (7th), Princeton (21st), and Musselman (23rd). East Finished 2-3 in pool play and 1-1 in tournament play as they beat Hurricane in the first round before losing to Matoca High School in the second round.
The big men stood out, did well and competed hard. They won the bench press competition by benching 185 pounds a total of 87 times divided up among 10 of the Spartan linemen.
The Spartans are wrapping up their June summer practice schedule and then will get back on the field on August 1 for the start of fall camp.
