When my niece made these, she sent me this picture. It doesn’t really show what they should look like. They will resemble a cut jelly roll. As I do not eat meat, I could not make these for a more accurate photo. Trust me, once you make these, they may well become your Saturday night go-to or, as my family used them, an appetizer.
SCOTCHES
Preheat Oven to 350° Servings: Approximately 6-8
Ingredients:
1 Pkg. bread dough, frozen is fine
1 Pkg. Italian sausage, either hot or sweet or both
16 Ounce container ricotta cheese (you may not use all of it)
1 Pkg. mozzarella cheese, whole or shredded
Grated cheese
Salt and pepper
Olive oil to fry
1/4 Small onion, chopped
Directions:
Take the sausage out of its casing and fry in olive oil with the chopped onion until browned. Drain. Roll out the bread dough into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Spread sausage and onion mixture on it (not too close to ends and sides). Drop small amounts of ricotta cheese all over the sausage mixture. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese all over. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on top of that. Roll dough mixture into a log shape and tuck in ends. Cut into slices. Dip slices in the grated cheese carefully, so ingredients do not fall out. Bake on cookie sheet for about 1/2 hour or until scotches are brown and dough is done.
