LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – The Seasons welcomed members of Progressive CEOS to their independent living facility for their May 10 meeting. Two longtime members of the club are now residents at The Seasons and were able to attend for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Patty Gray began the meeting with “The Leadership Garden” inspirational reading.
Susie McCree presented the lesson on “Point Pleasant-History Meets Mystery.” Early settlers and Native Americans inhabited the region, sometimes in peace and sometimes at war. Cornstalk and General Andrew Lewis were foes who eventually agreed to a peaceful settlement. Mad Anne Bailey saved the day in 1791 when she made the horse ride from Fort Lee to Fort Savannah in Lewisburg to obtain ammunition.
More recently, Mothman made an appearance and has become a legend that draws tourists to the area. In 1967 tragedy struck when the Silver Bridge collapsed and took the lives of 46 people.
Betty Jo McNeel gave the health motivator lesson on summer squash, a tasty variety of vegetable rich in nutrients. Jean Foley was honored on her 97th birthday.
Greenbrier County CEOS Achievement Day was held May 24 at the WVU Building at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds. The program featured information on pollinators presented by master beekeepers.
The Progressives’ June 13 meeting will be at the Greenbrier State Forest at Harts Run. Members are invited to bring a bag lunch and enjoy the outdoors.
