Alma Pearl Butcher McCurdy, 85, of Alderson, WV, passed away Tuesday morning, October 10, 2017, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA, following a short illness.
Mrs. McCurdy was born at Alum Bridge, WV, on January 22, 1932, a daughter of Oral Bryan and Cleo Gay Woofter Butcher , and later moved to Alderson.
She was a member of the Class of 1949 at Alderson High School, attended college in Parkersburg, WV, was a retired employee of the Federal Prison Service, a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson, and the Alderson Woman’s Club, and a special love was the Triple-Deck Bridge Club, of which she was a member for over 30 years. In 1970, she was the High Lady Shooter in the West Virginia Pistol Championship and was a remarkable lady.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Dare McCurdy, who died in infancy; a brother, Eugene Butcher; and three sisters, Eloise Butcher, Lavon Meredith, and Lorestine Knapp.
Surviving are her husband, John C. McCurdy of Alderson; two sons, Collins Bryan McCurdy and wife, Doris Weikle, of Greenville, WV, and Robert Edward Lee McCurdy and wife, Elaine R.S. McCurdy, of Alderson; two grandchildren, Patrick Collins McCurdy and wife, Pam, of Marlinton, WV, and Emma Hope McCurdy of Madison, WI; and one great-grandson, Garrett Collins McCurdy of Marlinton.
In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
