LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – The community is invited to The West Virginia Daily News Sports Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 18, at Carnegie Hall from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Please, come celebrate the best in high school sports as we present awards to the top athletes from Greenbrier East and West high schools.
Nominees were chosen by their coaches, and the community cast their votes for their favorites all month long. Voting ended on Monday, May 15.
Governor and Greenbrier East High School girls’ basketball coach Jim Justice will be the keynote speaker on Thursday night, and the top athletes from across Greenbrier County will be on hand to pick up their awards, including the People’s Choice Athlete of the Year awards for boys and girls.
“This year, as The West Virginia Daily News and the Virginian Review have navigated the changing landscape of news and print media, we are pleased to have made the decision to invest in sports coverage in the two Virginias,” said editor Sarah Mansheim. “Hiring Brandon Baker as a full-time sports reporter is a great investment, not only for our organization, but for the communities we serve.
“This inaugural sports awards ceremony is another way that we can thank the community for supporting us, while also giving a huge shoutout to the kids and their families who keep us entertained year-round on the ball fields, courts, tracks and mats.
“Youth sports is a huge part of small-town living, and we are excited to celebrate the kids and parents who work so hard every year. Please, join us at Carnegie Hall on Thursday,” she said.
