Mary Frances Mance Wright Spears, 91, of Mount Hope, WV, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017.
Mary was born at Long Branch, WV, on December 9, 1925, the daughter of Bruce A. and Lessie M. Thompson Wright.
Mary Frances Mance Wright Spears, 91, of Mount Hope, WV, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Greenbrier Health Care Center, Lewisburg, WV.
Mary was born at Long Branch, WV, on December 9, 1925, the daughter of Bruce A. and Lessie M. Thompson Wright.
She graduated in 1944 from Pax High School as valedictorian of her class. Mary was employed by the New River company for several years and retired from the Mine Safety and Health Administration as one of the first female federal mine inspectors. She was a member of the Pax and Prosperity Church of Christ. Mary was an excellent cook, gardener, seamstress, mother, and grandma. She was a woman of exceptional faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom R.; a daughter, Denise Chafin; son, Tom R. Jr.; a grandson, Jody; four brothers; and four sisters.
Mary is survived by daughters, Dianne Wood of Maple Fork and Geneva Lessie Hodge (Clarence) of Lewisburg; daughter-in-law, Lanoma Spears of Beckley, WV; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, August 4, 2017, at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with her grandson, Pastor Aaron Hodge, officiating. Burial will follow at Pax Community.
Visitation for friends is scheduled for Thursday, August 3, from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Mount Hope.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
