John F. Martin, 74, of Neola, WV, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, after a long illness.
He was the son of Jake and Elizabeth Martin.
He attended Greenbrier County schools and was a graduate of Lincoln Tech Institute and Lehigh Community College in Pennsylvania. He served in the military from 1965-67 in Korea and served as an honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery. John was employed by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren about the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Victoria Vandegrift Martin; his son, John Martin and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, of Sale Creek, TN; a daughter, Mary Martin Hoke and son-in-law, Matthew Hoke, of Shady Springs, WV; a sister, Ora Trainer Henson of Clintonville, WV; grandchildren, Derrick and Spencer Wenrick of Weikert, PA, and Ethan, Alexandria, and Wyatt Hoke of Shady Springs; a step-granddaughter, Cailey Lusk of Shepherdstown, WV; grandchildren, Thomas and Charity Martin of Sale Creek; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Martin and Elizabeth Martin Wenrick; brothers, Bill and Robert Martin; and sisters, Virginia Polite, Stella Stalnecker, Betty Radford, and Glenda Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Anthony Ambulance and Fire Co., 12584 Pocahontas Trail, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 1 PM at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Lewisburg Chapel in Lewisburg, WV. Following the memorial service, there will be a meal at the Neola Baptist Church in White Sulphur Springs.
A visitation will be held from 11 AM-1 PM for friends to gather at the funeral home in Lewisburg.
