Recently, Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley staff presented the Rupert Public Library with a check.
Two years ago, after the passing of Jane Spicer, one of Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley’s board members and avid book reader, the Shepherd’s Center created an award in Spicer’s memory.
Spicer loved welcoming and bringing new participants to Shepherd’s Center classes and events, especially the book group. Shepherd’s Center chooses someone who supports its programs and is a great ambassador for Shepherd’s Center to receive this annual award.
Additionally, Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley makes a donation to the public library of the award winner’s choice.
The 2022 Spirit of Shepherd’s Center awardee was announced at the annual volunteer luncheon. This year’s recipient was Juanita Keeney from Dawson.
Keeney was instrumental in setting up the Shepherd’s Center programs and services in the Meadow River Valley. She has served on its board of directors, planned classes for Adventures in Learning, prepared meals for Gwen’s Meals, encouraged others to attend classes and events held by Shepherd’s Center and more. Keeney has been an ambassador for years promoting Shepherd’s Center programs and services.
Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley thanks Keeney for all she has done and continues to do for Shepherd’s Center.
Keeney has chosen the Rupert Public Library as the recipient of the $500 check in memory of Jane Spicer.
Carol McClung, librarian, was excited to receive this unexpected gift. The library had just purchased new book racks for children’s books, and she said this check will definitely help to fill the racks.
