Ourania “Yia Yia” Cova Argyrakis, 108, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, went home with her heavenly father following a short illness on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 6:30 AM in the White Sulphur Springs Center Nursing Home.
Born September 10, 1908, in Chios, Greece, she was a daughter of Mikael and Loucia Cova of Chios.
She was a teacher in Greece before marrying her husband, John Argyrakis, and coming to the United States. Ourania was the proud retired owner of the Terrace Restaurant in White Sulphur Springs. She was a long-time member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and a member of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included cooking, Greek-American food, gardening, sewing, knitting, and embroidery.
In addition to her parents, Ourania was preceded in death by her husband, John Argyrakis; her son, Theodore John Argyrakis; two sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Karen and John Argyrakis and Bobbie Turner, all of White Sulphur Springs; and five great-grandchildren.
Known as “Yia Yia” (meaning grandmother in Greek), Ourania will be sadly missed by her many friends and family.
Special thanks to the staff of the White Sulphur Springs Center, where she had resided for the last nine years.
A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 2 PM with the Rev. Elizabeth Walker officiating.
A reception will follow the service before burial of her ashes at Hillcrest Cemetery.
